The Safety Issue Review Meeting (SIRM) has historically been a forum which is held on a Global Scale, but with the recognition of regional variance in the types of issues, a decision was taken to supplement the global session with more targeted and focused meetings at regional level. As part of IATA’s Focus Africa initiative, and under the umbrella of the Collaborative Aviation Safety Improvement Program (CASIP) for Africa, on October 13th, 2023, the first Regional SIRM was held in Nairobi, Africa. Attended and supported by aviation specialist from the continent as well as Operators with a vested interest in the Region. As the inaugural regional session, the agenda was focussed on a broad range of topics allowing freedom to present on industry issues, in particular, the following topics were discussed:

Future regional sessions will take on a slightly different format which will allow much more time to bring operational safety matters, regulatory compliance to the forefront for debate, and to enable space to consider hazard identification and mitigation strategy discussions.
